Other Conditions: To begin approximately February 2023 or soon thereafter pending further funding clearance. Continuation dependent on satisfactory performance program needs and renewal of funds.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the project director and project coordinator assist in the development and coordination of the Kulia Support/Na Hokua Projects’ activities in specialized areas of responsibility (i.e. person-centered planning educational coaching peer mentorship & advancement of self-determination/self- advocacy).
  • Facilitate weekly project meetings conducted via online video chat or at Maui College main campus and Molokai Education Center and other UH community college campuses as assigned/needed.
  • Facilitate application to/participation in postsecondary education for Native Hawaiian student participants.
  • Facilitate person-centered planning (PCP): work with participants PCP teams educational coaches and others to identify and secure necessary support.
  • Promote and foster students’ independence and self-advocacy; tutor and mentor participants in interpersonal skills time management study skills & coursework.
  • Document students’ progress collect project data and maintain accurate records & confidentiality for project staff review.
  • Create and maintain a positive environment for student participants through modeling collegial behaviors.
  • Advise project coordinator of the progress of tasks and/or activities (e.g. student/coach matches peer mentorship coordination) and anticipated problems (e.g. staffing challenges student issues).
  • Learn new technologies systems software and equipment needed to stay current.
  • Monitor individualized educational coaching from onset to completion; coordinate and initiate expediting actions.
  • Modify or update network process or program documentation.
  • Experiment with new ideas techniques and applications to increase job productivity and efficiency.
  • Other Duties As Assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education Hawaiian Studies Psychology Social Sciences Human Services or a related field and 1 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for teaching educational/vocational coaching and/or mentoring individuals from diverse backgrounds (e.g. but not limited to individuals with disabilities individuals from diverse socioeconomic/multicultural backgrounds at-risk youth); or equivalent education/training or experience.
  • Functional knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of teaching educational/vocational coaching and/or mentoring individuals from diverse backgrounds (e.g. but not limited to individuals with disabilities individuals from diverse socioeconomic/ multicultural backgrounds at-risk youth) as demonstrated by knowledge understanding and ability to apply concepts terminology.
  • Functional knowledge and understanding of principles theories federal and state laws rules regulations and systems associated with serving individuals from diverse backgrounds (e.g. but not limited to individuals with disabilities individuals from diverse socioeconomic/ multicultural backgrounds at- risk youth).
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of teaching educational/vocational coaching and/or mentoring individuals from diverse backgrounds (e.g. but not limited to individuals with disabilities individuals from diverse socioeconomic/ multicultural backgrounds at-risk youth).
  • Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team members and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
  • At least six (6) months of experience with data collection analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to travel independently to various geographical site/school locations in a timely manner.
  • Experience working in multicultural settings.
  • Working knowledge of Native Hawaiian history and culture.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a postsecondary education setting.
  • Experience working with high school teachers community college instructors researchers administrators and/or community resource providers.
  • Knowledge of resources for first generation college students.
