The Highlights:

This is a professional staff position reporting to the Director of The Art School. The Media Art & Communication Coordinator will manage the Media Art studio labs in the Photography and Printmaking Areas will independently supervise the related student staff and in collaboration with the faculty manage the related budget to support these areas’ studio facilities technologies and equipment to ensure that they are prepared to run smoothly safely and efficiently. The Media Art & Communication Coordinator will work independently to facilitate and organize The Art School’s internal and external communications.

What You’ll Do:

  • Familiarity and experience in the areas of photography and printmaking is required. The Media Art & Communication Coordinator implements recommends and makes purchases for and modifications to spaces to improve efficiency in the Photography and Media Art and Printmaking Areas. This includes leadership expectations and decision-making that involves software equipment upgrades and modifications of studio spaces. Equipment oversight includes the Audio Visual (AV) Checkout resource photographic enlargers and related darkroom equipment an Imacon drum scanner Epson P-5000 and P-9000 printers Epson and Contex flatbed scanners UV exposure units several printing presses and a Risograph printer.

  • The coordinator manages The Art School communication needs including internal email exchanges with Art faculty staff and students and web site updates. He/she interfaces with staff in Facilities Operations DePaul Public Safety Information Services The DePaul Artist Collective (DAC) and with The “Art in the Halls” student art collection partners in the residence halls. Oversight and management of unit data to create reports is required which includes equipment inventory lists studio safety protocols for the darkrooms personal data such as annual faculty reviews student staff hiring documents visiting speakers’ agreements digital storage and FAM management. Co-coordinates the submission of part-time faculty payroll and student hiring. Is expected to to attend all ART and LAS-College meetings.

  • Responsible for managing budgets for course supplies tools and equipment used in the Media Art areas Photography darkrooms and Printmaking studio-labs as well as the AV check-out facility. Responsibilities include independent budget oversight annual inventory maintenance and the handling and supervision of repairs in each area. The school’s AV area consists of more than 3000 pieces of equipment and it requires student staff. The AV area is open for student services 7 days per week. Makes day-to-day decisions independently for these studio labs and related resources which includes the ordering of studio lab supplies working closely with external vendors. Maintains records on lab equipment purchases and warranties and serves as the Art safety liaison to University’s Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHS).

  • Performs other Duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need:

  • BA BS BFA Art Minor (or equivalent) required. MFA MS or MA in an art related area desirable.
  • Two to three years of art or related lab management and hands-on experience preferred.
  • Must be able to routinely lift/carry 15-20 pounds and stand while working.
  • Experience in budget management for media art studio areas film darkrooms printmaking and related studio labs maintenance.
  • Extensive Experience and adaptability with new and changing technologies.
  • Experience in an independent communication leadership role.
  • Ability to independently interface with other areas across the university particularly IS FO and Environmental Health and Safety.
  • Ability to work independently under time limits and to anticipate and plan ahead for calendar deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office XL Adobe Creative Suite and with Mac computers is required.
  • Some evening or weekend hours may be requested on occasion if needed with as much notice as possible.
    Workday: Main Art Office hours are M-F 9AM-5PM but flexibility may be needed. Friday office hours are virtual.
