JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Graphic Designer (Marketing Communications Specialist 3) is part of The Pennsylvania State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences Marketing and Communications Unit and is responsible for consulting with colleagues within the College and Penn State Extension to develop creative visual content for print and electronic educational publications and marketing communications materials.


This position collaborates with copywriters and art directors to ideate and produce print and digital long- and short-format educational materials disseminating the practical application of college research to the general public and industry partners. Produces marketing materials targeting key audiences including current and future students, parents, alumni, industry partners, key stakeholders, and current and potential customers. Must develop an understanding of and appreciation for these audiences and their specific needs. This position will learn and uphold visual identity standards for the college and extension.


This position has the potential to work fully remotely.

Education and Experience:

This position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus four or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in graphic design. The successful candidate will possess a high level of creative thinking, excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills, attention to detail, a dedication to quality and client service, and an enduring appreciation for diverse audiences. In addition, the candidate must be highly organized with excellent time management skills, and the ability to shift priorities and multi-task in order to meet aggressive deadlines. The position requires initiative, excellent judgment, a high level of self-direction and personal accountability and the ability to manage complex projects to successful completion in a timely manner.


This position requires proven experience in graphic design as part of an agency or in-house marketing or creative team. Must be highly proficient in Adobe InDesign, with preference given to candidates understanding InDesign’s accessibility features. Must also be highly proficient in Adobe Photoshop. Experience creating custom illustrations in Adobe Illustrator is a bonus, and basic proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite. The successful candidate will have experience producing long-format documents (over 28 pages) including multiple chapters and complex tables, and knowledge of and experience in ADA document accessibility standards. Experience in pre-press and printing processes is required.
